EIL Students’ Academic Excursion at the 45th Language Testing Research Colloquium (LTRC 2024) in Innsbruck, Austria
The EIL Program excursion is annually organized to offer EIL students the opportunity to broaden their academic and professional horizon and to develop international networks. This year, from July 1 to July 5, 21 EIL students and 2 EIL Board members participated in the 45th Language Testing Research Colloquium (LTRC 2024), the most distinguished conference on language assessment in the world, in Innsbruck, Austria.
LTRC is a premier conference on language testing and assessment that each year brings together researchers, educators, and practitioners from around the world to discuss advancements, challenges, and innovations in the field of language assessment and evaluation. This year, the conference was attended by nearly 400 participants, including esteemed experts representing 36 countries.
At the conference, the EIL students participated in a variety of research presentations, workshops, work-in-progress sessions, symposiums, poster presentations, and keynote speeches that covered a wide range of topics under the theme “Reforming Language Assessment Systems, Reforming Language Assessment Research.”
Also at the conference, Chansak Siengyen, a current Ph.D. EIL student under supervision of Associate Professor Punchalee Wasanasomsithi, Ph.D., the EIL Director, delivered a poster presentation entitled “Computerized Dynamic Reading Assessment as an Enhancer of Reading Development of Students with Lower Proficiency,” thanks to a generous grant provided by the Graduate School. The EIL Director herself also gave a poster presentation entitled “Implementing a Learning-Oriented Academic Reading and Writing Assessment Model at a Tertiary Level in Thailand.”
In June 2025, the current Director of the EIL Program is going to co-chair the 46th LTRC with the Director of Chulalongkorn University Language Institute and the Director of Language Assessment Lab, Indiana University, USA under the theme “Language Assessment in Multicultural Contexts: West Meets East” to be held on campus of Chulalongkorn University. This is surely going to be another good opportunity for EIL students to engage in academic dialogues with renowned researchers and scholars from all over the world to foster collaboration and establish networks that will benefit both their current research endeavors and their professional life after graduation.
