Chulalongkorn University Graduate School Organizes Volunteer Project “Developing Koh Si Chang Area” to Promote Interdisciplinary Learning and Environmental Awareness

     The Graduate School of Chulalongkorn University organized the volunteer project “Developing Koh Si Chang Area” from August 22 to 24, 2025, at Koh Si Chang, Chonburi Province. The opening ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thiti Bawornratnarak, Dean of the Graduate School, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supasit Taweejamrusub, Associate Dean, outlining the project’s objectives and the collaboration between the Faculty of Law and the Graduate School at Novotel Marina Sriracha & Koh Si Chang.

     The project brought together 20 graduate students from the interdisciplinary program and 30 undergraduate students from the Faculty of Law, aiming to develop waste separation systems in schools and communities on Koh Si Chang that are suitable for the local context. The initiative emphasized the integration of knowledge across disciplines and experiential learning, fostering environmental awareness and promoting sustainable solutions.

Key Activities Over the Three-Day Program Included:

• August 22, 2025: Opening ceremony, academic lecture on “Waste Management Challenges and Solutions on Koh Si Chang” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuta Supakot from the Faculty of Science, and a beach cleanup activity with the local community.

• August 23, 2025: Cultural immersion through visits to historical and cultural landmarks, and a study visit to the Koh Si Chang Marine Animal Bank Learning Center under royal patronage to learn about shell waste management and its impact on marine ecosystems.

• August 24, 2025: Group discussions and workshops to develop actionable proposals (OKRs) for systematic waste management solutions.

     This volunteer project not only promoted interdisciplinary learning but also served as a platform for building collaborative networks among graduate students from various fields and strengthening partnerships between the Graduate School and the Faculty of Law in addressing waste management issues in the local context. It also aimed to instill a strong sense of social and environmental responsibility for sustainable development
