the 20th Southeast Asian Studies Graduate Symposium
On the morning of Thursday, June 12, 2025, the Southeast Asian Studies Program at Chulalongkorn University proudly hosted the 20th Southeast Asian Studies Graduate Symposium at Meeting Rooms 701 & 702, 7th Floor, Chaloem Rajakumari 60 Building (Chamchuri 10), Graduate School.
This half-day academic event brought together graduate students, faculty members, and scholars for a vibrant exchange of ideas and scholarly engagement. The symposium featured two insightful student panels:
• Panel 1: Authoritarian Power and Geopolitical Dynamics (5 presenters)
• Panel 2: Media, Perception, and Transregional Connection (4 presenters)
The program was honored by the presence of four distinguished scholars who served as commentators, providing constructive feedback and academic guidance to the student presenters:
• Assoc. Prof. Naruemon Thabchumpon, Ph.D.
• Assoc. Prof. Wasana Wongsurawat, Ph.D.
• Assoc. Prof. Yong Yoon, Ph.D.
• Asst. Prof. Wikanda Promkhunthong, Ph.D.
In addition to students from Chulalongkorn University, the symposium welcomed participants from other institutions, including Mahidol University’s ASEAN Studies for Sustainable Development and Graduate Studies Programs, and Thammasat University.
The Southeast Asian Studies Graduate Symposium continues to serve as a vital platform for graduate students to present their research, receive academic feedback, and engage with peers and faculty members. Events such as this not only enhance academic development but also help build strong regional networks and contribute to the advancement of Southeast Asian Studies as a dynamic and interdisciplinary field.
